A472 Gas Safety Regulations Explained & Designing for Compliance - London

The course is for those involved in the design of natural gas services installations in domestic, commercial and industrial properties and those responsible for the administration/supervision of building works which include the installation of gas services and equipment. It is intended to provide basic information on designing gas installations and installing appliances to comply with the current (1995) Regulations, but will not cover specialist aspects of design and installation. Reference will be made to documents giving more detailed information (e.g. British Standards).

The course will not provide the training necessary for those who carry out installation work.

Topics covered will include:

GAS REGULATIONS: background - 1984/90 and 1990 regulations; summary of what is covered by the Regulations; function of HSC and CORGI and requirements for CORGI registration. Legal responsibilities.

GAS PIPING INSTALLATIONS: properties of gas; installation materials; piping systems and basic sizing procedures; metering; testing, identification and labelling.

APPLIANCES: combustion theory; types of appliances and basic installation requirements: flues and ventilation provision. Consideration of relevant British Standards.
