Course Content

Energy strategy reports are a requirement for planning permission in London and a number of other UK cities including Oxford, Reading and Brighton.  Writing a meaningful report involves making many decisions about what data you use and how you apply it.  Whilst using dynamic simulation is a valuable tool it can produce unrealistic results, ensuring you know what to expect before accepting the results is vital.  This practical course will review energy strategies and demonstrate how to prepare an energy strategy report.

Learning Outcomes

At the successful completion of this course the delegate will be able to:-

  • Be able to advise clients on the requirements and/or potential benefits of incorporating energy efficiency measures and LZC technologies into new or existing buildings
  • Have sufficient understanding to discuss the direction of future regulations and planning policy and the implications for projects
  • Be able calculate returns from the FIT and RHI schemes
  • Have sufficient understanding of the available measures and technologies and the key considerations and implications of each to advise clients and design teams
  • Be able to undertake an energy study and understand the appropriate calculation methodologies, benchmarks and assumptions to apply
  • Be able to prepare a compliant energy strategy report

Trainer - Matthew Turner

Matthew is a Principal Consultant in AECOM's Sustainable Development group and is primarily focussed on delivering decentralised, low and zero carbon energy solutions for buildings and masterplans. He has extensive experience of undertaking renewable energy feasibility studies and preparing energy strategy reports for a range of buildings and clients.  Matthew also works for industry bodies including the Energy Saving Trust on behalf of whom he provides technical support for developers working on innovative low carbon schemes as well as developing case studies and technical guidance.
