EA25: Improving existing buildings

Refurbishment offers an opportunity to review how the building is used, in terms of occupancy patterns and demands, and hopefully implement an amended regime of set-points and occupancy hours that not only fits in with any new plant installed but also improves the efficiency of any existing equipment and helps to modify the behavior of the occupiers.

● Finding efficiencies

● Targeting high impact areas

● Retrofitting insulation / cooling

● Integrating variable speed drives

● Lighting upgrades, in terms of fittings and simple controls

● Refrigerants. Refurbs may offer opportunities to replace or upgrade equipment. If an upgrade,  then the choice of    refrigerant on ozone grounds may affect energy efficiency
