Air Conditioning Inspector Training

The Energy Performance of Buildings (Certificates and Inspections)(England and Wales) Regulations 2007 require inspection of all air conditioning systems with rated outputs over 12 kW at intervals not greater than 5 years.  Similar regulations in Northern Ireland have the same requirements.

This training will explain how to undertake such inspections in complex buildings and refer to CIBSE TM44: Inspection of Air Conditioning Systems and the Occupational Standard. Those who have completed the training and are accredited by CIBSE will be able to undertake such inspections. Go to the CIBSE Energy Centre website for details on how to apply to become accredited as an air conditioning inspector.

Those trained and subsequently accredited by CIBSE Certification will be able to carry out inspections of both complex and simple system.

In Scotland the requirements for inspection are set out in the Scottish Building Regulations.  They require inspection no less often than every 5 years.  Additional guidance, in the form of a short addendum to CIBSE TM44 details the regulations and the requirements specific to Scotland.

Accreditation through the Approval of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) route requires that all applicants have a minimum of 2 years out of the last 5 in building services and air conditioning designing, installing or maintenance.

By completing this pre-APEL-form your eligibility to progress through the APEL application route will be confirmed but not guaranteed.  You may wish to avoid incurring costs before being confirmed as eligible for the APEL application route. All applicants must be able to demonstrate that they can fulfil 100% of the National Occupational Standard (NOS) before they can become registered as an Air Conditioning Inspector.  The CIBSE Energy Centre website has more detailed information on what is required.

Previously, as Energy and Environmental Manager for East Sussex Hospitals, he was responsible for over 20 sites, with AHU optimisation a key objective. He is a recent Chair of the South Thames Energy and Environmental Forum, a group of approximately 30 energy managers. He is a registered Low Carbon Consultant.
