We run a range of topical conferences thoroughout the year. These one day events can cover a variety of subjects such as how to prepare for new legislation, what to expect from new technologies, a focus on new CIBSE publications and how to get the most the information provided and guidance on the current issues facing building services engineers. Most events are one day and held in CIBSE HQ in south London.

The updated Part L Building Regulations will have a major impact on the building services sector. These changes will prove to be the toughest yet, as part of the Government's plan for lower carbon buildings.
To help to prepare for this, CIBSE is producing a conference to address the main issues that will affect the industry. This one day event will provide the chance to hear a concise overview of the revisions to Part L and gain an understanding of the differences between the new regulations and the current ones. There will also be an opportunity to hear from industry professionals discussing the impact these changes will have on the industry, along with other critical issues such as the financial and practical implications that come with these revisions.
This event targets specialists from the private and public sectors from the following fields: building services (mechanical and electrical), design, technical services, environment, energy and sustainability; maintenance and facilities, estate services, projects and knowledge management; academics in building services and related fields.

The government's recent Smart Metering Initiative is a major challenge facing the industry. Increasing pressure is being put on companies to have the appropriate methods in place to implement the recent policy changes. Smart Meters have the ability to transform the ways in which we use energy, but how reliable are they in practice? Is the initiative working?

The aim of our conference is to facilitate and accelerate the discussion around the adoption of building information modelling (BIM) in the building services. The event will be bringing together the leaders of this new technology, who will be sharing their latest achievements and lessons learned.
BIM presents opportunities for success and risk for the unprepared. It requires innovative thinking and creative approach of implementation in a field that erroneously thought that CAD was revolutionary. BIM is rapidly changing all phases of building services area, from creating virtual building models, to assisting in the success of integrated project delivery. While it may be argued BIM will become a de-facto standard, it cannot be ignored, and there remain many unanswered questions.
We would highly recommend you to join our debates on BIM on the 2nd of December in London.
