The EU Directive on the Energy Performance of Buildings (EPBD), background structure and understanding the context. Implementation in England and Wales.

11:15       Calculating Carbon Performance

The National Calculation methodology; Background and content the simplified Building Energy Model (SBEM); iSBEM; Alternative interfaces; Dynamic simulation method and tools.

12.00       Introduction to Part L of the Building Regulations

The background to the Part L changes, an introduction to Part L of the Building Regulations, the Approved Documents and routes to demonstrating compliance.

The requirements of Part L of the Building Regulations (as amended 2010); key features; demonstrating compliance using the guidance in the Approved Document L2A 2006; limits on design flexibility; the Non-Domestic Heating, Cooling and Ventilation Compliance Guide; Inspection and commissioning; provision of information; the Compliance Checklist and checking compliance.

The requirements of Part L of the Building Regulations (as amended 2010); key features; demonstrating compliance using the Guidance in Approved Document L2B 2010; detailed requirements for thermal elements, controlled fittings and controlled services; the Non-Domestic Heating, Cooling and Ventilation Compliance Guide; Material Alterations, Material Change of Use, Provision of Information and Checking Compliance.

10:15        Exercise:  Using benchmarks to improve energy efficiency measures
